Young became one of the biggest villains in New York after hitting a game-winning shot against the Knicks in the playoffs back in 2021. Which ultimately led to their elimination from the postseason. When asked about his feelings towards New York fans, Young kept it simple. Noting that being a villain is just proof that he is doing something right,
“I’ve always looked at it as if I’m doing something right. If I’m offending them with my play that they hate me that much, I’m obviously doing something right,” Young told Peter Botte of the New York Post back in 2021. “I just got to let my play do the talking. At the end of the day, fans can only talk. They can’t guard me. They’re not out there playing.”
He also said that he takes being one of the most hated players in New York as a compliment.
“I definitely know the history of players coming in here and being hated, and I take that as a compliment, to be honest with you,” Young continued. “I’m obviously doing something right if you hate me this much. I just embrace it and focus on helping my team get the win. At the end of the day, we’ll get the last laugh if we do that.”
