Cam’ron has fired another shot at Vic Mensa, resurfacing an old music video that shows the Chicago rapper wearing a Confederate flag dress and a blonde wig.
Cam’ron posted the clip on Instagram and questioned Vic’s credibility as an activist.
“Vic Mensa, this you?” Cam’ron wrote. “Leave me alone bro until you explain this fake a** activist.”
The rapper also joked that although he is currently on vacation, the ongoing back-and-forth has him ready to respond when It Is What It Is returns in three weeks.
“I’m tryna enjoy my vacay, but no, y’all wanna start me up early,” he added. “Y’all know I’m on five days a week, right? Let’s play.”
What Else Did Cam’ron Say?
It started with Vic Mensa who criticized his controversial remarks about Africans and brought up the origins of Cam’ron’s last name, Giles.
In the clip, Cam’ron explained that he does not want to be referred to as African American because he does not feel a personal connection to Africa. His comments quickly sparked debate across social media about Black identity, ancestry and the meaning behind the term African American.
Vic Mensa responded by posting a video on Instagram in which he offered Cam’ron a history lesson about the connection between Black Americans and Africa. Mensa accompanied the video with the caption, “Why do Black people deny being African?”
Vic shared a video addressing Cam’ron’s comments and claimed that “Giles” was the surname of a slave owner. Cam’ron accused Vic of using clickbait and fired back during a heated response.
“What do I expect from a na with a Roc-A-Fella tattoo on his neck? Jay-Z don’t got one,” Cam’ron said, before adding, “Y’all light-skin nas gotta be stopped.”
Cam’ron also addressed the wider backlash he received from members of the African community, as the exchange between the two rappers continues to spark debate online.
