Tyga has caused quite a bit of controversy with his AI album. Many people have come out to pan the project, including Doja Cat.
His album, Starface, received the shocking 0/10 from Pitchfork, their first in 19 years.
Writer Drew Millard tore it to shreds, calling it “a piece of shit.”
“$TARFACE is smug and complacent, an amalgam of ’80s synth-pop and disco slapped together by someone who’s seemingly never cared to listen to one synth-pop or disco record in his life,” Millard wrote.
Many critics and fans have panned Tyga’s AI experiment, but shockingly not as many actual artists.
However, Doja Cat made sure people knew where she stood on the matter.
“Nobody asked me anything about Tyga but I just felt like saying this, Doja Cat told her live chat. “Tyga is a penis for making an AI album.”
It’s unknown how successful Starface will be, though it’s clear many humans not tied to venture capitalist margins are hoping it flops, and flops bad.
The other AI controversy, Fenix Flexin’s “Rubberz” actually charted on Billboard, and went viral. However, it wasn’t on the song merits, more so, the controversy surrounding that it may have been produced with AI.
Flexin denied this claim for awhile, but eventually, and Instagram commenter got him to spill the beans.
“Never said I didn’t use AI, I said it had nun to do w recording process,” Fenix posted. “I didn’t even know what da app was till we mixed it and erbody started commenting. Ain’t nothing wrong w using new technology as a too keep up with the times or get left behind.”
However, in a prior Instagram exchange, when pressed about using AI, Fenix denied it was used at all.
“No sirrrrrr, recorded same as all music I do,” Fenix posted. “Only difference is auto tune reverb and my fake UK accent, lol. Plastic smiles on sunset blvd, iykyk.”
He also denied the accusations in an interview with Andrew Callaghan for Channel 5. Additionally, the producer of the song, Purps on the Beat, denied it was made with AI.
The music industry as decided they want to incorporate AI into music, as they hire A&Rs specifically to house AI artists. Time will tell if killing the humanity of music, will yield the profit margins they desire.
