One of the teens convicted in connection with Pop Smoke’s 2020 murder has reportedly been sentenced to four years in state prison for smuggling fentanyl-laced pills into a juvenile detention facility.
According to the Los Angeles Times, 21-year-old Deijae Jester was sentenced on Thursday (Aug. 13) after previously pleading no contest to possessing 25 fentanyl-laced pills inside Barry J. Nidorf Juvenile Hall in December 2025. Prosecutors had requested a five-year sentence.
Authorities allege Jester’s mother, Nickia Randall, helped smuggle the pills into the facility. Randall is currently being held in San Bernardino and has not yet entered a plea on the narcotics charges.
Jester was one of four people charged in connection with the robbery and murder of Pop Smoke at a California rental home in February 2020. He was convicted of murder in 2023 after prosecutors presented a recorded jailhouse conversation in which he admitted to pistol-whipping and shooting the Brooklyn rapper.
Because Jester was 15 years old at the time of Pop Smoke’s killing, California law prevented him from being held in juvenile custody beyond age 25. He will now be transferred to state prison to serve the additional four-year sentence.
