Donell Jones is preparing to bring more than just his own catalog to his upcoming VERZUZ battle against fellow R&B veteran Joe.
While discussing the highly anticipated matchup, Jones revealed that he plans to perform records from his solo career as well as songs he wrote for other artists. His songwriting credits include music for 702, Usher, Silk and others, giving him another layer of material to pull from during the battle.
Jones has built an extensive catalog over the years with fan favorites like “Where I Wanna Be,” “U Know What’s Up” and “You Know That I Love You,” but his work behind the scenes could prove to be one of the biggest surprises of the night.
The R&B singer also explained why a VERZUZ against Carl Thomas wouldn’t make sense for him, suggesting that he views Joe as a more fitting opponent when comparing their respective catalogs and careers.
With both Donell Jones and Joe responsible for some of R&B’s most memorable records, the matchup could turn into a celebration of not only their hits as performers, but their overall contributions to the genre.
