On Thursday, (June 18th) the world mourned Tay Keith, an influential and important producer in 2010s Hip Hop. The reports began when Keith’s longtime collaborator and first hit making rapper, BlocBoy JB, posted pictures of Keith and him on his story.
“Damn cuz you just hurt me bad,” BlocBoy JB posted.
Rapper Young Soul also posted about the news. He attended Keith’s graduation in 2018.
“I love you bro @taykeith,” Young soul posted with a bird and broken heart emoji. “We been locked since 2011. I got some of your first beats ever. You vouched for me from Day 1 and I did the same. I’m grateful I got to know you & be a part of your story, & I’m grateful we were able to do some things I’ll always have memory of.”
Keith was found unresponsive in his apartment after an associate called a wellness check on him.
Now, coroners have determined what took the young producer from us.
According to a report by TMZ, Nashville coroners have determined Keith died from an overdose. In his system, they found ketamine and mitragynine. The latter drug is used in Kratom, a herbal supplement linked to help drug addicts come off of opiates. It’s also a mainstream drug, as you can go to Kratom clinics and have some while chilling in lounge chairs or playing games.
Keith also had nicotine and ethanol in his system, as well as suffering from mild coronary artery disease as well.
Coroners believe the combination of all these factors led to him overdosing. It’s unknown how much of the drugs were found in his system at the time, but considering the potency of Ketamine, it had to be quite a bit.
It is not known if other drugs contributed to his death at this time.
