Hip-Hop legend DMX was sentenced Wednesday, March 28th 2018 to one year in prison for tax fraud.
DMX admitted in November to evading $1.7 million in taxes. In addition to the 1 year in prison X was also given 3 years supervised release.
At the age of 47 DMX stood accused of hiding money from the IRS from 2010 to 2016 largely by maintaining a “cash lifestyle.” Prosecutors had pushed for Manhattan Federal Judge Jed Rakoff to give X the maximum prison term of five years. Urging Judge Rakoff to “use this sentencing to send the message to this defendant and others that star power does not entitle someone to a free pass, and individuals cannot shirk the duty to pay their fair share of taxes.”
