The City of Atlanta acknowledged Meek Mill’s perseverance by awarding Meek two of its highest honors.
On Monday, City Council President Felicia A. Moore and Councilman Cleta Winslow presented Meek with a proclamation declaring March 25, 2019 Meek Mill Day in Atlanta, Georgia. In addition to granting Meek his own day, the city also wanted to recognize his political efforts. As a result, Meek was given Atlanta’s highest honor, the Phoenix Award.
Atlanta describes their Phoenix Awards as “a small number of awards are issued to individuals who have made significant contributions to the local community, and are celebrating a major milestone.” Due to Meek being considered as an “honorary citizen” of Atlanta, the city wanted to use this award to applaud the rapper for his intense efforts to mend America’s criminal justice system.
This ceremony adds Atlanta to a litany of other cities that have supported Meek with his own day. This includes Philadelphia, celebrating their hometown hero with its own Meek Mill Weekend from March 15 to March 17.
