KRS-One just stamped Ab-Soul with one of the culture’s highest honors — officially giving him the green light to carry the “KRS-Two” name
The moment, which was captured on video, went down at Blue Note Los Angeles on March 19, with Talib Kweli in the building.
Soul, who referred to KRS as “the teacher,” made it clear what the honor would mean, asking for his blessing to step into the title — and KRS didn’t hesitate to give it… with a prophetic forewarning.
“The blessing is also a burden,” KRS told him, reminding Soul that KRS stands for “Knowledge Reigns Supreme” — and that the name comes with responsibility, not just respect. He added that only the “real” can stand in his presence, making it clear this wasn’t just symbolic — it was earned.
The Bronx legend doubled down, saying the universe aligned the moment and Soul showed up exactly where he was supposed to be. In his eyes, that alone proved he’s ready to carry the name with honor.
The two sealed it with a dap and embrace while Kweli called the moment “beautiful.”
More than a co-sign, this felt like a true passing of the torch — with KRS recognizing Ab-Soul as someone pushing the same message of knowledge, awareness, and elevation for the culture.
