The Julio Foolio murder case is close to wrapping up with all four defendants getting verdicts. One of the accused, Isaiah Chance, addressed the court after the jury sentenced him to life in prison, barring appeal.
What Did Isaiah Chance Say?
As he addressed the court, he sent the youth of Jacksonville a stark message.
It ain’t worth it, boy, like, it ain’t worth it. Me being a rapper from my city, and Foolio being a rapper from our city. It ain’t worth it,” Chance said. “The dissin, the beefin, the shooting, like. For what? When you’re sitting in your cell alone, cold. It’s lonely as hell. Everybody leave you. Like nobody here for you, the one’s who supposed to be your ride or die, your girlfriends, whoever you love [aren’t there]. The only person there for you is your mother and maybe like one friend, maybe, but it ain’t worth it though, bro.
Chance then reflected on how he got here.
I’m 21 years old, facing the death penalty. My only interactions with law enforcement was traffic tickets. Wake up the next morning, I’m facing the death penalty. That’s how quick life can change.”
Chance also stated he didn’t think his sentencing was just, because his ex-girlfriend who also helped in the murder plot, Alicia Andrews, only got charged with manslaughter. He argues that he was punished more because he stood with the other defendants, while she threw them all under the bus.
How Did Chance Get Here?
Isaiah Chance, Sean Gathright, Rashad Murphy and Davion Murphy received convictions of first-degree premeditated murder for the deadly shooting outside a Holiday Inn in Tampa. Prosecutors claim the attack stemmed from an ongoing Jacksonville gang feud and said the suspects used Foolio’s Instagram posts about his birthday celebrations to track his location.
Prosecutors also alleged Chance and his then girlfriend, Alicia Andrews, followed Foolio and his crew around Tampa clubs before the ambush happened outside the hotel.
