Afroman is headed to trial after a group of Ohio deputies sued him over a music video that used security footage from a 2022 police raid on his home.
The rapper — born Joseph Foreman — says Adams County Sheriff’s Office deputies damaged his property during the search and seized thousands in cash, though most of the money was later returned. No charges were filed after the raid.
Afroman later used footage from his home security cameras in a video for his song ‘Lemon Pound Cake’, saying he turned the experience into music to help cover repair costs.
Deputies who appear in the video are now suing him over the use of their likenesses. Afroman also filed a countersuit over the alleged property damage, but a judge dismissed those claims in February.
The case goes to trial March 16, with Afroman arguing the lawsuit is also about protecting his freedom of speech.
