Drake is preparing to roll out his ninth studio album, Iceman, later this year. According to hip-hop blogger DJ Akademiks, he plans to go for a clean sweep with his latest drop.
Drake Looking to Dethrone Kendrick Lamar With Upcoming Tour
Following their 2024 rap feud, Drake’s longtime rival Kendrick Lamar went on to have one of the greatest individual years in hip-hop history. After dropping GNX in November 2024, Kendrick went on the Grand National tour with TDE co-star SZA. Together, they inked their names in the hip-hop history books, with the tour going on to become the highest-grossing global hip-hop tour of all time with a whopping $336 million in ticket sales.
According to Akademiks, Drizzy is looking to eclipse that.
“I think Drake wants to beat the world record going into next year,” the hip-hop influencer suggested, as heard through CY Chels on X.
Akademiks also spoke about Drake’s appearance to cut ties with anyone who still associates themselves with Kendrick. He has passively denounced friendships with NBA stars LeBron James and DeMar DeRozan. And according to a November 13 report from Billboard, Drake recently also parted ways with the booking manager that he and Lamar shared — Brent Smith of Wasserman Music.
Akademiks believes that Drake’s decision to fire Smith was directly related to his representing Kendrick.
“I think he’s saying, ‘Yo, I don’t need an agent really. But if I’m gonna have an agent, my agent’s not gonna rep my opp. F*ck that,” he added on the stream.
Drizzy already holds the record for the highest-grossing hip-hop tour in the United States. His 2024 It’s All A Blur tour raked in an impressive $302 million. If he can also secure the global crown, it would surely put him in rare company.
To this point, Iceman does not have a confirmed release date. But when Drake does drop, fans are expecting a tour to follow.
