The saga involving Bad Boy Records founder Sean “Diddy” Combs finally came to a halt on Friday (October 4). After being found guilty on prostitution charges in May, the music mogul was sentenced to four years in prison.

Aubrey O’Day Sounds Off After Diddy’s Sentencing

Despite the heinous nature of Diddy’s crimes, few believed that the music icon would ever spend a day in prison. Mainly because of his connection to so many powerful people. It was because of Diddy’s power that his behavior was allowed to continue for decades. Many of his victims did not come forward because they feared that they wouldn’t be believed. Or even worse — retaliation.

In the wake of Diddy’s sentencing, former Danity Kane member Aubrey O’Day wants the music mogul’s impending prison time to be a lesson. To the next generation of aspiring artists. That lesson being that it is always okay to walk away.

“Let this serve as a cautionary reminder to young and aspiring individuals pursuing their dreams,” she wrote on social media on Friday. “The true warning is not that a jury may doubt your testimony. Nor that a court’s sentencing guidelines may fail to reflect the years of suffering you endured. The real warning is this: the moment someone in a position of power oversteps your boundaries or demands more than is legitimately required of you, walk away and do not look back. “

She also added that although chasing a dream may seem worth enduring the pain and suffering, the trauma that comes with that is never worth it.

“No dream, however bright, can outweigh the pain and exploitation that may follow if you remain,” O’Day added. “Too often, those who misuse their power, even when exposed, face far fewer consequences than the harm inflicted upon their victims. Protect yourself at the first sign of coercion or impropriety. If something feels wrong, trust that instinct and remove yourself from the situation. Your well-being is worth more than any opportunity.”
