Kanye West is paying the consequences for his 2025 track Heil Hitler. But artist Azealia Banks doesn’t believe that he should be.
Azealia Banks Praises Kanye’s Controversial Song
In a recent social media post, Banks called the track, which praises the Nazi leaders, “quite possibly the most original and authentic rap song to come out since F**k Tha Police.”
She also says that she doesn’t believe that people should police an artist’s creative expression. Comparing the track to Quentin Tarantino’s 2012 blockbuster film, Django Unchained.
“For whatever it’s worth – artists deserve the right to express themselves in whatever capacity they see Fit. If Quentin can make Django, Kanye can make Heil Hitler,” she wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Ye was set to headline Wireless Festival in the United Kingdom this July. However, the U.K. Government blocked West from entering the country. Instead of simply replacing Ye as the headline, Wireless Festival opted to cancel the show altogether. Banks called the UK Government’s move to ban west “socially immature.”
“I do see how the British public is too socially immature to accept a 3-day headline festival from him so soon,” she added. “And I don’t really like this apologetic stuff he’s on because it’s suuuuuper phony…. But for whatever it’s worth…. The master to Heil Hitler is blue-chip contraband art. I think punishing it is doing the opposite of what’s intended.”
Her comments led to a lot of backlash from users on social media.
“It’s not subversive, revelatory, or genius; it’s the equivalent of a petulant child throwing a tantrum. And that ‘s**t corny as f**k,” one person wrote.
“Are you f*****g psycho? 6M Jews died because of that f*****g idiot Hitler … you make zero sense,” a second user added.
West has not issued a response to Banks’ comments.
