Drake has been the subject of a lot of criticism after the fallout of his 2024 rap feud with Kendrick Lamar. But despite seemingly being public enemy number one, Drake does still have a few allies in the industry.
Bas Calls Out Ebro Over Drake Comments
Recently, French-born rapper Bas weighed in on the recent backlash that Drake has faced.
“Drake is among the most, if not the most, inclusive of artists our culture has put forth,” Bas wrote in the comments section of a recent Instagram post.
“[He] pushed countless rappers to the forefront, dancehall artists, afrobeats artists, R&B artists, reggaeton, older artists, newer artists, etc.”
Amid his beef with Kendrick Lamar, Drake has been accused of being a “culture vulture.” But Bas hit back at that notion as well. Noting that Canada’s culture is “more akin to NYC” than any other city in the United States.
“If it’s the Canadian thing, Toronto is an hour flight from NYC lol. I’d argue their culture and ethnic makeup is more akin to NYC than pretty much any city in the States,” Bas added. “NYC, Toronto, and London are a triumvirate culturally. Surely it’s not his pen? He’s arguably the greatest writer of a generation. So what is it ?”
Bas’s comments were in response to a statement made by media personality, Ebro, who had some strong comments about Drake’s fan base.
“You’re just fans of an individual. We are having a hip-hop conversation,” Ebro said. “About something that has literally saved our lives, put food on people’s plates, and a culture that has been an inclusive culture of all different types of ideas, music, and expression, and all of these things for f*cking 50 years. We’re talking about something that we love and care about. I’m not just talking about comments and fans and f*cking trolls and all this other stupid a** sh*t.”
Drake has yet to respond to Ebro.
