Director Benny Boom is teaming up with Manny Halley and Quality Films to bring screenwriter Terence Paul Winter’s gritty music drama “Greenlight” to a screen near you.
The film follows rising rapper Nico Jones from his troubled childhood in South Central Los Angeles to his present-day grind at 20, where fame, pressure, and outside forces begin reshaping his identity. As his music starts buzzing, Nico must decide if success is worth losing himself.
Executive producer Manny Halley is producing under Imani Media Group alongside Kevin “Coach K” Lee and Pierre “P” Thomas for Quality Control Music, plus Manny Halley Jr and Rodney Turner.
“Greenlight is a bold, emotionally charged story about ambition and the cost of chasing a dream,” Halley told Deadline. “Benny Boom is an incredible visionary, shaping stories that feel immediate, layered, and unforgettable. Bringing this project to life alongside Coach and P has been extremely rewarding, and I’m eager for audiences to see it.”
Boom — whose TV credits include The Equalizer, CSI: Vegas, Empire, Chicago P.D., Black Lightning, NCIS: Los Angeles, All American and City on a Hill — is an MTV Video Music Awards winner and has earned multiple honors from the BET Awards and BET Hip Hop Awards. He’s repped by Paradigm, Artists First and Del Shaw.
