Beyoncé and Kelly Rowland are continuing to give back to their hometown of Houston through a major housing initiative aimed at helping people experiencing chronic homelessness.
The Knowles-Rowland House, an $8.4 million permanent supportive housing project, is nearing completion and is expected to open in early 2026. The development will feature a 31-unit complex designed to provide both housing and essential services for individuals facing long-term homelessness.
The project is an adaptive reuse of the Knowles-Rowland Center for Youth, a community facility originally built in 1999 using funds generated from Destiny’s Child’s first single. The building, named after Knowles and Rowland, once served as a youth space and gymnasium connected to the church the two artists attended growing up.
However, the facility suffered heavy damage following Hurricane Harvey and later endured a fire in 2021, leaving the structure unused for several years.
Now the site is being transformed into supportive housing, with 16 of the units specifically designed with accessibility features for residents with mobility or sensory impairments.
The project is being sponsored by Bread of Life, which is affiliated with St. John’s Downtown Church. Residents will have access to a range of services including case management, mental health counseling, substance abuse treatment, life-skills training, and nutrition assistance through a partnership with Temenos Community Development Corporation.
Once completed, the Knowles-Rowland House will offer stable housing and critical support for individuals working to rebuild their lives and regain independence.
