Beyoncé Under Fire After Singing National Anthem

Before Queen Bey went into her 40-song set list, she kicked off the show by observing the National Anthem. This is customary for many events such as basketball and football games. However, many of her fans were still disturbed by the gesture. They expressed their dismay on social media.

“Beyoncé built a whole brand around “black excellence” and “freedom” yet had no problem singing the national anthem written by a slave owner that literally celebrates the death of enslaved people,” one fan said on X, formerly known as Twitter.

“Honoring American Nationalism while Trump’s deporting babies. She’s a sellout,” another user added.

Others noted that she was not actually praising the song, but perhaps performing it as a show of symbolism as it relates to the show.

“I’m sorry but Beyoncé is teaching me a lot of y’all are dumb “smart” people. Singing the national anthem which says “land of the free” but transitioning straight into a song that says “Freedom Where are you?” is a CRITIQUE. THERE IS NO FREEDOM. oh my god y’all are f*****g idiots,” one user suggested.

Beyoncé also came under fire for the show as an April 28th report from TMZ suggested that the Grammy-winner was struggling to sell tickets. Per the outlet on the afternoon of the opening show in Los Angeles, there were still over 3800 seats available. Despite there being tickets available for less than $20.00.

However, despite the report, fans who were in attendance for the show at SoFi Stadium captured videos. Showing that the stadium was nearly full on the night of the performance.
