Last year, Cee-Lo Green announced that after 30 years, the iconic Atlanta Hip Hop group Goodie Mob would go their separate ways. However, fellow member Big Gipp is indicating the end of the group wasn’t mutual.
What Did Big Gipp Say?
During an appearance on Yung Joc’s The Streetz Morning Takeover, Joc said he thought all four members would attend. This prompted Big Gipp to bring up Cee-Los’s previous comments about the end of Goodie Mob, and how Cee-Lo felt music would feel forced. Gipp did not agree with Lo’s comments.
“Lo is trying to find himself in the music, trying to find himself in the business,” Big Gipp said.
He then turned his attention to Cee-Lo, delivering an impassioned retort.
“Goodie Mob ain’t your problem, and ain’t never been your problem. You can’t be mad at us about what when down with your specific things that you do personally. Sometimes, when things go wrong, some people take it out on everybody else. I think we in that kinda situation [with Cee-Lo]. It’s not our fault that he feel the way he feel. We the big brother, we raised him. But we don’t have no problem with him…Our thing is: if there’s ever a problem, deal with the problem, don’t turn on your family.”
Cee-Lo and Goodie Mob’s relationship has always been shaky, even dating back to the 90s. He originally left the group in 1999 to pursue a solo career. After that, he’d make sporadic reappearances, linking back up in 2013 and 2020, among other appearances.
Fans React To Gipp’s Comments
Social media reacted swiftly to Gipp’s comments, placing the blame on Cee-Lo.
“Let’s be for real here. Cee-Lo went Hollywood and then when he caught that sex case he was all for the Goodie after getting dropped from the Voice or whatever show he was doing. Now he back acting funny now that people aren’t talking about that anymore and he’s getting opportunities again,” one user posted.
“30 years later same ole Cee Lo and Gipp,” another user posted.
“I think it was wise they let gipp talk cuz ik kujo was gon snap,” another user posted.
Some have said that now that Cee-Lo is getting opportunities again he’s not interested in linking with Goodie Mob. They point out that the Mob held him down after he got dropped by others due to his sexual assault case, though he was later acquitted. However, the stain of that case has followed his career ever since.
