Of course, fans on social media exploded with reactions.
“I swear I just don’t understand how it took so long; the song was a hit for like 2 years and still is,” one user wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.
“Diamond is an amazing achievement and a testament to the song’s lasting popularity,” a second user chimed in.
“Ten million units for a song titled “I Don’t F*** With You” proves rejection scales better than romance,” a third user remarked.
Big Sean Talks Jay-Z’s Influence on Hit Record
The record’s diamond certification makes it undoubtedly the biggest hit of the Detroit rapper’s career. But according to Big Sean, it nearly didn’t make it onto his third studio album, Dark Sky Paradise. During a 2025 interview on the St. Brown podcast, he says the song came as a result of him “f*****g around” in the studio. But it was Jay-Z’s vote of confidence that caused him to change course.
“I went to their house and was playing them the songs. Beyoncé was like, ‘It’s a little disrespectful. Maybe you should put Nicki Minaj on it for a female’s voice. “AY-Z was like, ‘Nah, it’s hard, though.’ He was like, ‘People gonna get it that you just having fun,’” Big Sean said as caught by Revolt.
“I remember I was getting texts from Hov. He sent me a text one time that was like, ‘Every day you not putting that song out, you [are] losing.’ I almost didn’t put it on the album ‘cause I thought it was a little dumb.”
