The music exec talked figures during a recent interview with Nick Cannon, though he was a little ambiguous on whether these were upfront investments, generated revenue, or a combination of both.
“Two billion dollars between Drake, Nicki, and Wayne,” Birdman told Cannon, according to Complex. “Two plus billion dollars. Hundreds of millions of dollars, guaranteed.”
Birdman has never shied away from discussing finances, particularly when discussing his trio of mega stars.
The New Orleans mogul made similar remarks in 2021, explaining how he gave the three artists a combined $1.4 billion after signing his Universal Records Deal.
“When Universal gave me a bag, brother, I could honestly say I gave Wayne about $400 to $500 million, Drake got about $500 million, and Nicki got about $300, $400 million out of my pocket,” said Birdman. “No cap. If you don’t believe [me], ask them.”
Birdman Almost Signed Under Same Label as No Limit Records
Baby talked about the Universal deal during Cannon’s Class and even detailed some of the early label meetings he had beforehand.
There was one point where he and his brother almost had a deal with Priority Records, who also signed Master P’s New Orleans-based label No Limit Records, to an unprecedented deal. According to Birdman, Master P intervened and made sure it didn’t happen.
“I went to Priority, some weird s–t here. I go to Priority, they fly us to California,” he said. “Me and Slim, a couple of the homies, we go out there. N—a come in there and said, ‘I’m sorry, we can’t do the deal. They said because Master P said, ‘If we sign y’all, he’s leaving.’ I just jumped on a jet and went back to New Orleans was like, ‘F—k it, we just gonna grind with it.”
Master P and Birdman have seemed to have moved past those early issues After years of rumored tensions between Cash Money and No Limit.
