South Carolina rapper Blacc Zacc is now at the center of one of the most serious federal cases to hit a hip hop figure this year. The 34-year-old artist — born Zachary Chapman — was taken into custody by U.S. Marshals on Tuesday (Oct. 29) and booked into Spartanburg County Jail on a long list of charges that include RICO conspiracy, murder-for-hire, and murder in aid of racketeering.
According to a newly unsealed 22-page federal indictment, prosecutors allege that Chapman wasn’t just another name in the Carolina rap scene — but the alleged founder and leader of a violent street organization called Dirty Money Entertainment (DME). Authorities say the group operated primarily out of Columbia, S.C., while maintaining several properties — including a house in nearby Blythewood — that served as hubs for its activities.
The indictment accuses Chapman of directing DME’s criminal operations, delegating roles to other members, and greenlighting acts of violence tied to the organization’s alleged efforts to maintain power and retaliate against rivals.
A large portion of the charges trace back to a 2021 murder-for-hire plot that prosecutors claim Chapman ordered after a rival gang member allegedly snatched a diamond chain tied to DME. That incident, federal agents say, set off a violent sequence that now sits at the core of the government’s racketeering case.
Blacc Zacc is facing nine federal counts, including:
- RICO Conspiracy
- Murder in Aid of Racketeering
- Attempted Murder in Aid of Racketeering
- Conspiracy to Commit Murder in Aid of Racketeering
- Causing Death Through Use of a Firearm
- Two counts of Use, Carry, and Discharge of a Firearm During a Crime of Violence
- Use of Interstate Commerce Facilities in Commission of Murder-for-Hire
- Conspiracy to Interfere with Commerce by Threats or Violence
Chapman appeared before a federal magistrate the same day he was arrested, entering a plea of not guilty. His detention hearing is set for Monday in Greenville, where prosecutors are expected to argue he remain behind bars pending trial.
If convicted on the most serious counts — including murder in aid of racketeering — Chapman could face life in federal prison.
Blacc Zacc, who built a regional fanbase with projects like 803 Legend and Carolina Narco, has not yet released a public statement. His legal team has not responded to media inquiries.
