Fans of legendary Hip-Hop duo Black Star (Yasiin Bey, formerly known as Mos Def, and Talib Kweli) were left frustrated and disappointed after the group’s performance at London’s O2 Brixton Academy on Wednesday night turned into what many are calling a “disrespectful and embarrassing” experience.
According to multiple reports and fan reactions circulating on Twitter/X, Black Star didn’t hit the stage until 10:20 p.m., despite the venue’s 11 p.m. curfew. Attendees—who paid upwards of €60 per ticket—were met with a 25-minute set that lacked the energy and depth expected from the iconic duo. While fans appreciated the surprise appearance from Common, the brief performance and dismissive attitude from the headliners overshadowed the moment.
As boos erupted from the frustrated crowd, Yasiin Bey addressed the audience, saying:
“What the f*** was that about? There are no prisoners here. There is also a no-refund policy. The door works both ways… if you’re not having a good time, there are other options. You don’t have to put up with these shenanigans.”
Fans described the experience as “chaotic,” “unprofessional,” and “insulting,” with one concertgoer calling it “disrespectful and embarrassing.” Many left early or took to social media to warn others about upcoming tour dates, urging fans to temper expectations.
With no apology or acknowledgment of the delay from the stage, the night ended on a sour note for concertgoers who expected a celebration of Hip-Hop excellence but instead left feeling shortchanged.

I never thought I would see the day people would be booing Black Star at O2 Brixton, but here we are. They brought out Common, which was cool. pic.twitter.com/9pdytW5Lhs
