R&B singer Brian McKnight has reportedly filed a defamation of character lawsuit against The Rickey Smiley Morning Show and radio personality Karen Clark over comments made during a recent interview.
According to the filing, McKnight claims an interview Clark conducted with his ex-wife portrayed him as an “emotionally abusive, mentally abusive, and neglectful father.” The singer alleges that Clark appeared to support those claims during the discussion rather than maintaining a neutral stance.
McKnight also points to a segment in which the show reportedly played a clip of his son, Brian McKnight Jr., who alleged that his father refused to tell Niko McKnight that he loved him while Niko was battling cancer in May 2025.
The lawsuit argues that these claims and the way they were presented caused significant damage to McKnight’s reputation. As a result, he is seeking $25,000 in compensatory damages for each claim, in addition to punitive damages.
The case adds another chapter to the ongoing public dispute involving McKnight and members of his family, which has played out across media platforms and social media in recent years.
