Bryson Tiller has quickly climbed the ranks as one of the top R&B artists in the game. Tiller burst onto the scene with his hit song Don’t off his 2015 album, T R A P S O U L.
Bryson Tiller Reveals Why He Didn’t Sign With Drake’s OVO
Amid the success of Don’t, many people believed that Tiller would sign with Drake’s OVO. Especially given the success of artists such as ILoveMakonnen and PartyNextDoor, who had a similar sound. But Tiller ultimately decided to sign with RCA Records.
On a recent episode of the Rory & Mal podcast, Tiller said that the reason he did not sign with OVO was because of a lapse in communication after he reached out to the Grammy winner.
“I’m being so blunt. Honest. The only reason I didn’t sign [to OVO] is just because bro didn’t hit me back one time. This was in a moment when my label, like, they were hounding me, they were flying me, they were trying to get me away from Drake,” Tiller said
Tiller also revealed that he was initially “pissed” about having to sign with RCA. But out of respect for Drake, he still reached out to him to let him know that he would be going in a different direction. Still, he didn’t get a response.
“He never hit back,” he added. “And I know he’s just a busy, super busy dude. I’m not saying that he didn’t want me to sign or whatever, but at that moment, like, I had a kid; people back home are looking at me like, ‘Is he gonna do it? Is he gonna make it?’ So I had to go with what was the most sure shot.”
Tiller was not the only major artist that Drake missed out on signing. After appearing on Drizzy’s Crew Love off his Take Care album, many people also assumed that he would sign The Weeknd to OVO. But like Tiller, The Weeknd decided to go in a different direction and signed with Republic Records.
