Busta Rhymes is bringing fans back into the legendary sonic world of J Dilla with the announcement of their upcoming collaborative album, Dillagence 2. The Flipmode Squad frontman held an exclusive listening session in New York City on Thursday night (February 20), giving fans and close collaborators an early preview of the highly anticipated sequel to their original 2007 mixtape.
The intimate event featured appearances from respected Hip-Hop figures Statik Selektah and DJ Tony Touch, adding to the significance of the moment. Those in attendance were treated to unreleased material from the project, including what appears to be a major collaboration with Lil Wayne.
Statik Selektah fueled speculation by sharing a brief snippet on his Instagram Stories, tagging Wayne in the clip. If confirmed, the track would mark the first time fans have heard Lil Wayne rap over production from the late, legendary J Dilla—an exciting crossover between two icons from different corners of Hip-Hop.
Busta Rhymes initially broke the news on Instagram ahead of the listening session, writing, “THE BLESSINGS DON’T STOP SO WE DON’T STOP!!! NEVERRR!!! BREAKING NEWS!!!! BUSTA RHYMES x J DILLA NEW ALBUM!! POP UP LISTENING SESSION TONIGHT!!”
The original Dillagence mixtape, released in 2007, served as a tribute to J Dilla following his passing and showcased Busta’s deep appreciation for Dilla’s groundbreaking sound. With Dillagence 2, Busta appears ready to continue that legacy, blending Dilla’s timeless production with new energy and collaborations.
As of now, an official release date and tracklist have not been announced, but anticipation is already building as fans await another chapter in one of Hip-Hop’s most respected creative partnerships.
