Busta Rhymes Offers Advice to Younger Artists
Needless to say, Busta knows a thing or two when it comes to success in the rap industry. When speaking with Billboard about what advice he can offer to younger artists today, he offered an interesting perspective. He believes it is important for them to decipher whether they are in it for the love or for the money.
“The most important thing is to really understand the difference between doing this because you love it and doing it because you’re just trying to get a bag,” Rhymes told the outlet. “I would be doing this if there were no money, which is what it was initially.”
He also added that younger artists need to consider what they are contributing to the rap industry.
“Think about what your contribution should be. Think about how significant your contribution needs to be and then deliver on that,” he added. “It’s kind of like blurring out the noise, loving what you do, being passionate about what you do, and just being committed no matter what people do to deter you from what you’re feeling and believing in and what you really see in your vision for what you think it should be.”
Busta Honors Ananda Lewis During His Acceptance Speech
Bussa Buss was recently honored with the Rock The Bells Visionary award at the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday (September 8). He was the inaugural winner of the Award and also the first VMA he has received in his career.
During his acceptance speech, he honored the late MTV VJ, Ananda Lewis, who passed away in June.
“I want to thank — and I think we all need to acknowledge — the incredible woman who loved us very much when we came to MTV during the ’90s,” he said. “An incredible woman who loved me, and she loved us. She loved the culture; she lifted us up. I love her very much. I miss her very much. The late, great, incredible royal empress Ananda Lewis. I want to pick up her mother, her father, and her sister Lakshmi.”
