As she prepares for the arrival of her sophomore album, Am I The Drama? Cardi B has been as transparent as ever during the rollout. And during a recent X Spaces, the Grammy-winner got candid about the artist that she wanted featured on her album.
Cardi B Responds to Critics About The Features on Her Album
On Monday (September 15), Cardi revealed the artists who would be featured on her upcoming album. And that led to mixed reviews from fans. In response to the fans’ suggestions on which artists should have been featured on the forthcoming project, Cardi had a strong message for fans. Noting that she reached out to several other artists. Who ultimately declined to be on her album.
“We have asked and everything but one thing I don’t do, I don’t beg baby,” she said in the spaces via Live Bitez. “So a lot of y’all just doing too much and it’s just like calm the f**k down. It’s already enough, like it’s already f******g enough. Like for real, calm the f**k down. If y’all wanted these artists on the f*cking album, well, maybe y’all should have called them. ‘Cause I did. […] I can’t control people.”
Still, Cardi was able to round up a star-studded group of feature artists. Including Lizzo, Megan Thee Stallion, and the legendary Janet Jackson.
But even when some of the artists on her album did commit to a feature verse for the project, Cardi said it was still a struggle to get some of them to send verses for her album.
“I need these f*****g features. And it’s like I’m not trying to press or go crazy on these artists because I love them down,” she said on an Instagram live session on April 30.
“But it’s like, come on now! I need that! I need that right now! Y’all don’t want to miss this opportunity. I’ll sing this shit myself! But I need y’all, and I need y’all to hurry up, and I love y’all.”
Am I The Drama? Drops this Friday, September 19.
