Cardi B’s Am I The Drama? rollout is officially in its “don’t blink” era.
On Monday (Aug. 11), she announced the next pre-album drop will be a track called “Imaginary Players”, landing this Friday.
“Just a lil taste of the drama. IMAGINARY PLAYERS THIS FRIDAY,” she wrote on IG alongside a photo of herself crouched in front of a white Rolls-Royce, wrapped in a matching fur coat and bodysuit, rocking a candy-pink wig and knee-length, ultra-high-heeled boots.
Not long after, Cardi hopped on Instagram Live to set the tone for what’s coming. “This single is really how I talk all day every day but in a song,” she said. “It’s like real flex s—t real, calm flex s—t… If only y’all knew the story for what I had to go through with this single… when the song comes out, I’m gonna tell y’all more.”
The title alone has rap fans buzzing. “Imaginary Players” is also the name of a Jay-Z joint from 1997’s In My Lifetime, Vol. 1 — which sampled René & Angela’s “Imaginary Playmates.” No word yet if Cardi is flipping the same sample or just borrowing the energy, but either way, she’s clearly in her talk-heavy era.
“Imaginary Players” arrives just ahead of her new album Am I the Drama?, dropping Sept. 19 via Atlantic Records — her first full-length since 2018’s Invasion of Privacy, the chart-topping, Grammy-winning debut that cemented her as one of rap’s most dominant forces.
