Cardi B dropped her long-awaited sophomore album, Am I The Drama?, on Friday (September 19). And while the rap star has received an assortment of praise about her latest project, some people have convinced themselves that the album is perhaps too good to be Cardi’s own doing. Rapper-turned-podcaster Joe Budden is one of those people.
Cardi B Hits Back at Joe Budden’s Ghostwriter Claims
During a recent episode of Budden’s self-named podcast, he threw the Bronx femcee a backhanded compliment. He appeared to insinuate that Cardi’s album was only good because she employed ghostwriters.
“Whoever is writing these lines, He is smoking this sh*t,” Budden expressed.

It did not take long for Cardi to hit back at the Pump It Up creator. In a social media post that has since been deleted, Cardi B insisted that her bars are all written by her. And slammed Budden for giving her “backhanded tens.”
“Whoever wrote it?? Nah, that’s CARDI,” she said in the post. “This is my process. I’m a natural roaster, and you know I’m quick with the mouth, so I’ll be coming up with the lines and I’ll record myself and lay it later. Don’t give me backhanded tens cuz I’ll always be able to prove my sh*t.”
This isn’t the first time that Budden has accused Cardi of having writers. After she dropped her rendition of Jay-Z’s Imaginary Players, which also appears on the album, Budden once again credited the writers of the song, but downplayed Cardi’s cadence as “choppy.”
“We’re gonna shout out the writers. The writers killed. This is not about the writers. The writers killed,” he said.
“That wasn’t enough. That delivery, those punch-ins, how choppy that was… ‘Imaginary Players,’ for y’all that weren’t there, Hov, when that dropped, was a much better rapper than that. It was just flying because of the cadence and the flow and what he was saying, his aura and voice control. Cardi’s in the same pitch, same tone, sounding choppy, not smooth, bars are there, but this is not the beat for that.”
