On Tuesday (June 9), 19-year-old Karmelo Anthony was convicted of murder and sentenced to 35 years in prison. And rap star Cardi B is dismayed by the court’s decision.
Cardi B Reacts to Karmelo Anthony Trial Verdict
In a post to her social media account on Tuesday, she called his sentence “disgusting” and accused the courts of making an “example” out of the teen.
“Wow! Just freakin wow! DISGUSTING… This is not justice, this is trying to make an example!!!” she wrote in a post on Tuesday.

Of course, the rap star’s comments led to an outpouring of reactions on social media.
“Reverse the roles, and they let the white kid go after stabbing the other kid in the heart. Cities would be burning down,” one user wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.
“Yeah, that’s what the justice system is about. Set an example so that others don’t think it’s fine to go around killing other people,” a second user chimed in.
“They gave him three decades like he was a seasoned cartel boss, the math definitely isn’t matching,” a third user remarked.
In April 2025, Anthony, a track athlete at Centennial High School, approached the tent of a rival team, Memorial High School. Once under the tent, Austin Metcalf, along with other athletes, approached Anthony and asked him to leave. This led to a verbal exchange between Anthony and the rival team. Karmelo reportedly reached into his bag and told the athletes, “Touch me and see what happens.” At which point Metcalf shoved Anthony, leading the teen to pull out a knife and stab Metcalf in the chest. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
