After seven long years, Cardi B is finally stepping back into album mode.
The Bronx-bred superstar has officially announced her long-awaited sophomore album, Am I The Drama, set to drop on September 19. The project marks her first full-length release since her Grammy-winning debut Invasion of Privacy took the rap world by storm in 2018.
Cardi B shared the news via Instagram, revealing not just the title and release date, but also the album’s bold cover art: a striking visual of the rapper draped in an intricate red gown, flanked by two ominous crows. It’s a high-drama image that matches the album’s title—and the energy she’s been giving lately.
Leading into the announcement, Cardi teased a cinematic trailer where she leaned fully into her villain era. “I learned power is not given — it’s taken,” she says in a commanding voiceover. “I’m shedding feathers and no more tears. I’m not back, I’m beyond. I’m not your villain, I’m your karma.”
The rollout follows the release of Outside, Cardi’s first solo track in over a year—and a likely preview of the raw, personal energy she’s bringing to the new project. The record takes pointed aim at her estranged husband Offset, with whom she’s currently navigating a divorce. Cardi also alludes to her rumored new relationship with New England Patriots wide receiver Stefon Diggs.
“Do you how you do me, bet you we won’t speak again / Favorite player from your favorite team, he in my DM,” she raps before doubling down with, “Heard them Patriots got them n—as, let me in the locker room.”
Between the bold visuals, lyrical shots, and a title that invites speculation, Am I The Drama is already shaping up to be one of the most talked-about releases of the year. And knowing Cardi B, she’s just getting started.
