Gnarls Barkley was a dynamic duo that took pop music by storm in the 00s. Headlined by former Goodie Mob singer Cee-Lo Green, and Grammy-winning producer Danger Mouse, the duo racked up accolades for their debut album St. Elsewhere, anchored by top 10 Billboard hit “Crazy.”
After a few albums, they went on hiatus, never quite reaching the peak of the debut. Recently, they reunited for their “final album,” opening the chance for the group to tour again. However, Green announced that he’s doing it alone.
Despite Gnarls Barkley going on tour, it won’t be together. Instead, Green will tour with a backing band, but no Danger Mouse.
Green explained on his Instagram.
“total transparency @gnarlsbarkleyofficial #fans the ” to whom it still concerns” tour is here! It’s been almost 20 years , probably won’t happen again ! There has been inquiry but “DANGER MOUSE IS NOT PERFORMING” !!!! We want no misunderstandings / disappointments etc. He is my Producer(a great one at that) ! not a performing artist .we are business partners, Whatever he decides for himself is his right…and I support him (vice versa) this is a disclaimer. #respectfully. I on the other hand will be performing Songs from these three iconic albums….it’s going to be amazing and he will be there in spirit. See you #soon.”
Fans were left quite baffled, wondering how this is a Gnarls Barkley tour without the architect of their sound.
“The truth is, the comeback album was such a massive flop that it made danger mouse drop out of the tour,” One user posted. “And the reason it flopped is simple: the album just isn’t good. it’s really bad.”
