It finally happened. After weeks of speculation, the Boston Celtics finally traded their All-Star, Jaylen Brown.
Celtics Trade Jaylen Brown to Sixers in Stunning Trade
ESPN’s Shams Charania was the first to break the news that Boston had traded Brown to their Eastern Conference rival, the Philadelphia 76ers. Brown now heads to the City of Brotherly Love to join forces with All-Stars Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey, along with standout rookie VJ Edgecomb.
As for the Celtics, they received back a healthy return for Brown. The Sixers will send their star, Paul George, two first-round picks and two second-round picks. Per Charania, only one of those picks is unprotected, the 2031 first-round pick.
To say this trade is a stunner would be an understatement. After Jayson Tatum went down with an ACL tear in the 2025 playoffs, 2026 was seen to be a rebuilding year for Brown and the Celtics. With some even believing they could be a lottery team. Especially given the departures of key players like Jrue Holiday and Al Horford.
But not only was Brown able to keep the Celtics above water, but he had them in title contention. Of course, that all came to a close after they were eliminated by the Sixers in the first round of the playoffs after being up 3-1 in the series.
This ends a 10-year run for Brown with the Celtics. The team that drafted him. Even though his tenure with the franchise ended on a sour note, his time in Boston will always be remembered. Especially after winning the NBA Finals MVP back in 2024, when they defeated Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks.
Now, it’s on to a new chapter for Brown.
