Day one fans of Power 105.1’s The Breakfast Club have taken issue with the morning program’s move to Netflix in 2026. But one of the show’s co-hosts, Charlamagne, had an interesting rebuttal about the fans’ gripe.
Charlemagne Hits Back at Critics
As part of their new partnership with the movie streaming giant, full-length episodes are exclusively available on Netflix, as opposed to YouTube, as they were under the previous arrangement.
But fans who aren’t willing to splurge on the monthly subscription fee have felt alienated to some degree. With their content accessibility now being limited to social media clips. But Charlamagne says that the backlash is only coming from fans who want to create a narrative.
“The funny thing to me is like, people will be like, ‘I’m not watching Breakfast Club on Netflix, but then you constantly tweeting about the America’s Next Top Model doc, you constantly tweeting about Stranger Things, you constantly tweeting about the Diddy doc,” he said during a recent episode of the Brilliant Idiots podcast. “A lot of it is just narrative. Somebody will get online, create a narrative, put something in somebody’s head, and then everybody will run with it.” From there, he pointed to viewship numbers on Netflix and claimed that he’ll be the first to admit if it backfires.”

However, many fans’ rebuttal to Charlamagne’s comments was that the morning program is not something they would watch at home.
“Imagine coming home from work to watch The Breakfast Club,” one fan wrote in the comments section of the social media post.
“Unc crashing out. Imagine turning on Netflix and saying ‘I think I’ll watch The Breakfast Club,” a second user chimed in.
“I haven’t watched it on Netflix. I used to watch it on YouTube every day, though,” a third user added.
