Breakfast Club Host Charlamagne the God has weighed in on the controversy at the BAFTA Awards. And he is not pulling any punches.
Charlamagne Rips Davidson, BAFTA Amid Awards Controversy
During the award ceremony, Tourette’s Campaigner, John Davidson, shouted out the N-word during a presentation by Delroy Lindo and Michael B. Jordan. And while many have asked for forgiveness and understanding about the condition that often causes Davidson to use “strong language,” Charlamagne isn’t buying it.
Amid the backlash, he gave all parties involved the Donkey of the Day on Monday (February 23).
“Now the reason I’m giving the BAFTA Awards, Alan Cummings, and all of the Handlers of John Davidson, the Donkey of the Day is that the reality is that he should not have been in the room,” Charlamagne said. “If a person has a condition that makes them scream out inappropriate, obscene, or taboo words, why risk having them in the room?”
The radio host went on to use Kanye West as an example of a person that major networks would not even think of inviting to certain events, given his past behavior and his tendency to lash out and say outlandish things.
He also hit back at the notion that Davidson’s shouting the racial slur doesn’t reflect his beliefs.
“It’s just convenient that he saved his most offensive outburst for black people. I can be respectful of the condition. But I don’t have respect for any of ya’ll that allowed him to be there with the condition. And then Good Morning America aired a story saying that BAFTA had enough time to edit it out. BAFTA suck my d. You mean to tell me that you edited out the Free Palestine and other things, but you let the n***a stay in?”
The BAFTA awards have since issued an apology and removed the version where Davidson uses the slur.
