Charlamagne the God has become one of the biggest voices in hip-hop media. And he has a new $200 million contract with iHeartMedia to show for it.
Charlamagne Speaks Out on Issues With Joe Budden
But in his rise to the top, Charlamagne has gained some frienemies. And one of those is rapper-turned-podcaster, Joe Budden. During a recent sit-down with Angie Martinez, the media maven broke his silence about him and Budden’s current feud. Charlamagne insists that he has no current issue with Budden. However, he admits that they have a tendency to “go bad” on each other.
“I haven’t talked to him in a while. I haven’t spoken to Joe in a while. But I don’t have any problems with Joe [Budden]. I got a love for Joe [Budden],” Charlamagne said. “You know what it is? When Joe and I are mad at each other, we go bad on each other. But you know I’ll run into him somewhere, and we’ll pick up like we always have. I’m sure. But when we go bad, we go bad on each other.”

“When we are mad at each other we go bad on each other. When I hear why he’s upset w/ me— I can understand it.”

Budden’s current issues with The Breakfast Club host are based on the comments he made during his contract negotiations when his podcast was on Spotify. Charlamage suggested that Budden knew his worth but was unsure how to negotiate it. He also suggested that it was his team that was to blame when it came to the contract dispute. In addition, he said that Budden was not in the same tier as bigger podcasters such as Joe Rogan.

Budden obviously took exception. However, Charlamagne maintains that the rapper took his comments in a way that was not intended.
“When I hear why he is upset with me, I can understand why he felt that way. Like this last one, I’m like ‘aight, I get it.’ But I didn’t mean it the way that he received it,” he added.
However, Charlamagne also went on to admit that it wasn’t a conversation that he should have been having publicly on the air. But noted that it is hard to avoid certain topics when you are in the media field.
At the time of writing, Budden has not responded to Charlamagne’s comments.
