Childish Gambino Becomes The First Black Director To Ever Win An Emmy For Comedy

Donald Glover aka Childish Gambino’s run continues, this time at the 2017 Emmy Awards. Gambino becomes the first Black director to ever win an Emmy for a comedy series. This win comes from his critically acclaimed FX television series Atlanta and it’s episode that he directed “B.A.N”.

Gambino directed two episodes of the ten episodes of Atlanta. The episode B.A.N. is the episode where rapper Paper Boi features as a guest on a talk show called Montague, being part of a discussion on the media’s indictment of Black culture and its intersection with the transgender community. Commercial parodies play throughout the episode during the breaks of the talk show.

During Gambino’s acceptance speech he thanks everyone from his family to director Hiro Murai to President Trump. CBS has since edited out Gambino’s Trump shoutout on their YouTube upload of Gambino’s acceptance speech but here it is from the live version as well as Gambino’s post Emmy interview.
