Police in Manchester arrested Chris Brown early Thursday (May 15) morning on suspicion of “grievous bodily harm.”
According to The Independent, officers from the Metropolitan Police detained the R&B singer—currently in the UK for his tour—at the five-star Lowry Hotel in Salford just hours after he arrived on a private jet.
“He has been taken into custody, where he remains,” police said in a statement. “The arrest relates to an incident at a venue in Hanover Square on Feb. 19, 2023. Detectives from the Central West Area Basic Command Unit are leading the investigation.”
Authorities say Chris Brown assaulted music producer Abe Diaw during a confrontation at Tape, an exclusive nightclub in Mayfair, reportedly involving a glass bottle.
In 2023, Diaw filed a lawsuit against Brown, accusing him of inflicting “severe and lasting injuries” by beating him over the head with a bottle of tequila. Diaw also claimed that Brown “ruthlessly” stomped on his head while he lay on the ground, knocking him unconscious. He further alleged that Brown spread false rumors about him after the incident.
Authorities say they tried to question Brown at the time of the alleged assault, but he left the country before they could reach him. Neither Brown nor his team has commented on the arrest. The status of the lawsuit and his upcoming tour dates remain unclear.
