The 2026 BAFTA (British Academy of Film and Television Arts) Awards took place on Sunday (February 22). And while the awards ceremony should have been focused on celebrating one of the best years in film, it wasn’t. Instead, it was highlighted by one of the audience members hurling a racial slur toward Sinners stars Delroy Lindo and Michael B. Jordan.

While Lindo and Jordan were presenting the first award of the evening, a member of the audience audibly yelled the N-word during the presentation.

Chuck Inglish Blasts BAFTAs For Not Censoring Racial Slur

After the clip went viral on social media, several people were outraged. Among them was Chuck Inglish of The Cool Kids. English found it interesting that the BAFTA committee made sure to censor the parts of the show where presenters said “free Palestine,” but were not as thorough with deleting the clip of the racial slur being hurled at Lindo and Michael B. Jordan. Which had obviously left the two actors feeling embarrassed.

“Can’t say free Palestine on a taped broadcast. But a white man with Tourette’s can get a clear hard ER off,” Inglish wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter, on Sunday.

Many users in the comments section of the post appeared to agree with his sentiment.

“Yes, and it’s intentional to mock/irritate people. They’re constantly rage-baiting society. Nothing really to be shocked about at this point,” one user said.

“Right .. It’s a taped show, but they left that for online engagement… We see what they’re doing,” a second user added.

The culprit was Tourette’s syndrome activist John Davidson, who was the inspiration behind the BAFTA-nominated film I Swear.

In the aftermath of Davidson’s actions, the BAFTA awards host, Alan Cummings noted that people with Tourette’s syndrome can sometimes use “strong language” as part of their condition. He also thanked the audience for their “understanding.”

At the time of writing, neither Delroy Lindo nor Michael B. Jordan has spoken out about the incident.
