Legendary Chicago emcee Common has been putting out music on a major level for 25 years strong and is still continuing to break ground. Just last year Common was performing new music at The White House and over the weekend he has won his first Emmy for his song “Letter To The Free” from the Netflix documentary “13th”documentary.
This is coming on the heels of Common’s very personal “The Hope & Redemption Prison Tour: Life Without Parole” where Common sits down with incarcerated prisoners to discuss their lives and the mistakes they have made as well as the changes they have made.
The stars have aligned for Common yet again as you can tell by his celebration of this accomplishment that this was a very personal piece of work for him.
Robert Glasper and Karriem Riggins also got Emmys for their roles in the song. Although Common has received mainstream success by being the only Hip-Hop artist ever to win a Grammy, an Oscar, and an Emmy he still remains humble. Here’s what Common had to say about his Emmy win.
