Despite the success of The Cosby Show in the 1990s, there is an eternal stain on the hit sitcom due to the legal trouble involving the show’s co-star Bill Cosby. Cosby was convicted of three counts of aggravated indecent assault in 2018 and sentenced to three to ten years in prison. However, he was released in 2021 after the conviction was overturned.
Before his passing, Warner discussed how Cosby’s legal issues shouldn’t change how the show is viewed.
“Regardless of how some people may feel about the show now, I’m still proud of the legacy and having been a part of such an iconic show that had such a profound impact on — first and foremost, Black culture — but also American culture,” Warner said.
May Malcolm Jamal-Warner rest in peace.
