Things have officially gone from bad to worse for singer D4VD. On Monday (April 20), Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman announced that the singer was officially charged with the murder of missing 14-year-old Celeste Rivas. And he could be in even more trouble than previously expected.
D4VD Officially Charged With The Murder of Celeste Rivas
Hochman announced that the singer, born David Anthony Burke, is being charged with first-degree murder with special circumstances. And said that the charges “include the most serious charges that a DA’s office can bring.” If he is convicted, Burke could face the death penalty.
The special circumstances include “lying in wait” and committing the murder for financial gain. Because he believed that Rivas was “threatening” his “very lucrative music career,” on the night in question.
Hochman says that the police believe that Rivas visited the singer’s home in April of 2025 and was never seen again. They also allege that D4VD used a “sharp object” to murder Rivas.
“There is physical evidence, and there is forensic and digital evidence that we intend to present in court to prove these charges beyond a reasonable doubt,” Hochman said during the press conference on Monday.
Rivas’ body was found dismembered inside a Tesla registered to D4VD in September. The vehicle was abandoned in Hollywood Hills, California, before being towed to a nearby impound lot. After receiving several reports of a strange smell coming from the vehicle, police were called and discovered Rivas’ decomposing body.
The singer is scheduled to be arraigned later on Monday. Stay tuned for more updates.
