New Orleans Hip-Hop artist Dee-1 is publicly criticizing the Atlanta Hawks over a planned “Magic City Monday” promotion that references Atlanta’s famous strip club, Magic City.
In a passionate social media video, Dee-1 argued that the theme is inappropriate for an NBA game environment, especially considering that families, youth basketball teams, and church groups frequently attend games. The rapper described the promotion as “one of the most ignorant, offensive things in NBA history,” questioning why a strip club would be celebrated during a professional basketball event that is marketed as family-friendly entertainment.
Dee-1 urged fans and concerned community members to contact the Hawks’ ticket office to demand the event be canceled. In the caption accompanying his video, he wrote: “THE ATLANTA HAWKS ARE DOING ONE OF THE MOST IGNORANT, OFFENSIVE THINGS IN NBA HISTORY WITH A STRIP CLUB THEMED NIGHT AT AN NBA GAME!!!”
The rapper also framed his criticism within a broader cultural conversation, suggesting the event sends the wrong message to young people in attendance. His post included hashtags such as #WhatThePluckIsGoingOn and #HipocriticalHop, signaling what he sees as a contradiction between community values and the promotion.
As the debate spreads across social media, the Hawks’ “Magic City Monday” promotion is already drawing mixed reactions—some viewing it as a nod to Atlanta culture, while others echo Dee-1’s concerns about the appropriateness of the theme in a family-oriented sports setting.
