Despite being convicted and sentenced to prison time on prostitution charges, music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs is still putting up a legal fight.
Diddy, Legal Team Seeking Expedited Appeals Process
According to a new report from NBC News, Combs and his legal team are moving forward with the appeals process. He was sentenced to 50 months in prison earlier this month.
According to the outlet, Alexandra Shapiro, one of Combs’ attorneys, is pushing for a speedy appeals process. Calling the music mogul’s desire for an expedited decision “critical.”
“Mr. Combs expects to challenge both his conviction and sentence in his appeal. An expedited briefing and argument schedule is critical to ensure that Mr. Combs’s appeal of his sentence does not become moot while the appeal is pending,” the filing states (Via NBCNews).
“Accordingly, to ensure that Mr. Combs could meaningfully benefit from any appellate ruling vacating his sentence, we have proposed a schedule that would expedite this Court’s consideration of Mr. Combs’s appeal.”
Combs may be staring down the barrel of a 50-month prison sentence. But he has also enjoyed his share of moral victories. When Diddy was initially swept up by the feds in September 2024, he was facing racketeering and trafficking charges. A charge that would almost have certainly landed him a much heftier prison sentence. Fortunately for Diddy, he was able to evade those charges. And was only convicted on the charges of interstate prostitution related to Cassie and Jane Doe.
Still, even with the prostitution charges, Combs was facing up to ten years in prison. So to receive a 50-month sentence is essentially a slap on the wrist.
Combs has spent the last 14 months behind bars. But he has continually pushed for his freedom. Even after he was convicted, he and his legal team pressed the judge to grant him bail while he awaited sentencing. However, his request was repeatedly denied.
It will be interesting to see what the outcome of his appeal will be.
