Sean “Diddy” Combs is facing a legal shakeup in his $50 million defamation lawsuit, as three of his attorneys are seeking to withdraw from the case amid a dispute over legal fees.
Attorneys Michael Tremonte, Katie Renzler and Erica Wolff of Sher Tremonte LLP filed a motion on Sept. 14 asking to be removed as Combs’ counsel in his civil lawsuit against Nexstar Media, attorney Ariel Mitchell and Courtney Burgess. According to the filing, the attorneys cited a “substantial balance” of unpaid legal fees, costs and expenses, as well as what they described as a lack of cooperation and communication.
Combs’ camp, however, disputes that characterization. A representative told TMZ that Combs made the decision to change attorneys because of disagreements over billing.
“I made the decision to switch lawyers because I won’t let anyone take advantage of me by overcharging me and running up bills that were never approved,” Juda Engelmayer said on Combs’ behalf. The statement characterized the situation as a business dispute involving charges Combs says were not authorized.
The disagreement now leaves the court to address the attorneys’ request to withdraw as Combs’ $50 million defamation case continues.
