The legendary Houston artist DJ Screw has long had his music enveloped in mystery. Most of his mixtapes can only be acquired through buying the physicals from the Houston Screw shop or Ebay. However, it appears the magic of Screw will now get released for any and all fans to hear.

When Is DJ Screw Music Coming To DSPS?

According to information from X music insider and blog era legend Andrew Barber, Screw’s Original Mixtapes Vol.1 is available soon, with more to follow.

“‘Originals Vol. 1’ is available today, with more of the late Houston legend’s original mixtapes set to be uploaded weekly through the end of June.”

It’s unclear how the Screw tapes will make it to DSPs, as one major hang up has always been uncleared samples and royalty issues.

Either way, it’s great news for fans who’ve held curiosity about the legendary paradigm shifter.

How Did Fans React To The News?

Naturally, the prospect of hearing Chapter 19, 122, or 83 on DSPS excited many fans.

“Luv It Mayne!! As a teenager when Screw hit its prime in HTown, from 95-99 I can’t even exaggerate what that experience was like. To this day, outside of Funk/Soul there has never been another Genre of Music influence me like Screw did. Truly. Truly an experience,” one user posted.

“This is great and please let all of Clue’s mixtapes eventually be on streaming…,” another user posted.

“yay no more internet archive,” another user posted.

However other users were disheartened over the lack of exclusivity, while also questioning which tapes could make it on streaming.

“They ain’t gonna be the exact tapes, it’s gonna be a compilation of what can be released, there’s too many screwed joints that labels won’t clear I’m sure… gotta go to the Screw shop for the real tapes,” one user posted.

“Man f*** streaming,” one user posted. “Physical media is better for the listener and the artist from quality to compensation.”

“That’s sucks it was cool searching back in the days to obtain his tape or maybe you purchase it at his http://store.It kinda reminded me of gogo here in dc,” another user posted.
