With a rap career that has spanned more than three decades, it’s no secret that Jay-Z has one of the deepest catalogs in the game. But much of the younger generation is still learning about Jay-Z’s genius, including rising rap star Doechii.
Doechii Praises Jay-Z’s Musical Growth
Doechii is signed to TDE. So, being around artists such as Isiah Rashad and Kendrick Lamar, she has learned to appreciate good music. During a recent interview with Apple Music’s Ebro Darden, the Alligator Bites Still Heal creator recalled recently going through Jay-Z’s catalog and being thoroughly impressed. Especially when it comes to his musical “growth” throughout the years.
I’m from the south, so I didn’t grow up on a lot of Jigga, but I recently went through all of his discography. Oh my God! Everybody knows he’s crazy, but damn! Hearing his growth?! Wow, so incredible. He’s so cool,” Doechii said.
Hov has had a long layoff from the music industry. His last studio album, 4:44, dropped in June 2017.
But the Brooklyn native gave everyone a reminder of just how cold he is on the mic. When he headlined the annual Roots Picnic last month. During his freestyle, Jay called out several of his critics. Drake, Nicki Minaj, Dame Dash, and Tory Lanez all caught a few bars in his rebuttal.
And the numbers don’t lie either. After headlining the festival, the final tally of attendees was a whopping 80,000 people. The largest turnout in the history of the festival. Once again proving that Jay-Z is still the biggest headliner in the game.
Hov also has a trilogy of shows that he is set to perform at Yankee Stadium in July. It will be interesting to see what he has in store.
