During a conversation with The Art of Dialogue, Dr. Umar raised questions about whether Fat Joe identifies as a Black Latino or White Latino, arguing that the distinction matters when discussing who should be permitted to use the controversial word.
Dr. Umar went a step further by suggesting that photographs of Fat Joe’s parents could provide insight into his racial background, stating, “We need to see his parents’ photos.”
His comments add to an ongoing debate within Hip-Hop about race, cultural identity, and the use of the N-word, particularly among Latino artists who have longstanding ties to the culture.
