50 Cent has become the center of backlash as a result of his new Diddy documentary, Sean Combs: The Reckoning. And the latest person to weigh in on the film is social media influencer and philanthropist, Dr. Umar Johnson.
Dr. Umar Calls Out 50 Cent Over New Diddy Documentary
During a recent appearance on Twitch with streamer Raud, Umar brought up an interesting point. He questioned why Combs had time to do a deep dive into Diddy’s years of crime but not the wrongdoing that white people have committed against black people.
“I have no problem with Black people holding Black people accountable. I have a problem with Black people feeling the need to expose others so in-depth, while never exposing white people who harm Black people,” Dr. Umar said.
He also called the new docuseries a form of “self-hatred.”
“The Roman Catholic Church has taken advantage of far more children than R. Kelly allegedly did. Jeffrey Epstein took advantage of far more women than Sean Combs (Diddy) allegedly did, so where’s the documentary on Epstein made by Black people?” he continued, “The 50 Cent documentary is an example of self-hatred disguised as community service.”
Combs’ Videographer Explains How Footage Was Obtained
Many people have questioned just how ethical the new Netflix documentary is. Especially because it obtains exclusive footage of statements made by the Bad Boy Records founder just days before his arrest. Many speculated that Diddy was going to use the footage as part of a redemption story if he were acquitted, but 50 bought it after he was found guilty.
In a statement to Deadline, Diddy’s videographer, Michael Oberlies, explained exactly what happened. Oberlies says that it was not he who released the footage. Rather, it was a “third party” who stood in for him on a day he was unable to film.
“The footage in question was not released by me or anyone authorized to handle Sean Combs’ materials; it was by a third party who covered for me for three days while I was out of state,” he said to the outlet. “This incident had nothing to do with any fee dispute or contract issue. The actions of the parties involved reflect the lack of integrity every storyteller should uphold. Taking footage intended for our project to advance a narrative that was not our own is both unethical and unacceptable.”
Combs is expected to take legal action over the new film. Stay tuned for more updates.
